Our Columbus Chiropractor Welcomes You

At Midwest Chiropractic Center, our Columbus chiropractor is committed to your health and wellness. Our very own Dr. Manz has decades of experience in helping patients find relief from symptoms and injuries using non-invasive, holistic, and drug-free chiropractic treatment options. Whether you’ve been hurt on the job, in an auto accident, or while playing a sport, our goal is to optimize your quality of life through personalized care.

If you’ve been thinking of scheduling an appointment with us but aren’t sure what to expect, allow us to walk you through the basics of most first-time appointments in our office. By being better informed, you’ll have a better idea of what to expect when you come to see us. Of course, if you have any additional questions about your appointment, you’re always free to give us a call and we’d be happy to answer them.

What to Expect From Your First Appointment

Many patients who come in to see our Columbus chiropractor have never had a chiropractic exam or treatment in their lives. As a result, they may feel understandably nervous or anxious. Our goal at Midwest Chiropractic Center is to help you feel prepared and at-ease for your appointment through patient education. And while we see each patient as a unique individual and there’s no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” approach to chiropractic care, there are a few components that every new-patient appointment in our office will typically include.

Initial Health History Evaluation

When you first arrive (or prior to your arrival), our office staff will ask you to fill out some forms about your medical history, family history, and the reason for your appointment. This is our opportunity to get to know you and your background; this information will come in handy as our chiropractic team works to uncover an accurate diagnosis. For example, if you’re coming in because of back pain, we’ll want to know if the pain is localized, if it’s dull or sharp, and when it started. We’ll also need to know about any pre-existing medical conditions that could affect your treatment, as well as previous injuries and your family medical history. All of this information helps us better serve you.

Your Chiropractic Exam

Next, it’s time to conduct our comprehensive physical exam, which will get us on the path to a diagnosis. Our chiropractic exams involve some basic tests, such as a measurement of your blood pressure, reflexes, and breathing to establish a base line. From there, we may move onto additional testing on specific areas of the body, such as the spine, knee, or other injured areas. Generally, a chiropractic exam will give us better insight as to what the underlying problem may be, and in some cases, an exam and a review of your symptoms will be enough to help us reach a diagnosis. In most cases, however, we will recommend additional testing to confirm our suspicions.

Diagnostic Testing (As Needed)

We can perform a number of diagnostic tests right here in our office, which saves the time and hassle of you needing to see another specialist or wait longer to receive results from a third-party lab. X-rays are one of the most common diagnostics that we order, as these allow us to see a clear image of the spine. These are often useful in diagnosing problems such as herniated/bulging discs, sciatica, poor spinal alignment, and similar issues. In some cases, more detailed and thorough diagnostics (such as MRIs) may be needed.

Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Once we’ve completed all necessary diagnostic testing, we can take this information into account along with information from your medical history and chiropractic exam. This will help us reach a diagnosis, which is an important step in helping you find relief from your symptoms. We provide all patients with a completely customized treatment plan in our office, and we’ll take your specific needs and lifestyle in mind as we form your treatment plan recommendations. Our immediate goal is to help you find relief from your discomfort, followed by healing the problem at its source. Finally, we may recommend ongoing treatment to help prevent the injury or medical condition from occurring again down the road.

There are a number of specific treatment plans we can provide in our office, all of which are non-invasive and drug-free. Our spinal adjustments are among the most common treatments we recommend; these manual manipulations of the spinal column allow us to correct alignment issues, which can in-turn help relieve pain and other symptoms while promoting the body’s own natural healing processes. We also offer massage therapy, which is great for improving blood and oxygen circulation throughout the body and relieving tension in the muscles and tendons. This is especially useful in treating whiplash injuries, such as those caused by a car accident.

Finally, we may recommend certain lifestyle and dietary changes to help sustain your results and prevent future issues from recurring.
